Prophets takes VR to the next level
What can we expect from this custom-built VR kit? An installation put together by Prophets from consumer hardware: two 360fly 4K cameras, an omni binaural microphone with four sets of dummy ears, a flybox, amplifier, processor and internal battery.
The person with the VR kit on his or her back records 360° video. A second person, wearing the VR goggles, enjoys a genuine VR experience. So how does it work? The images and audio are streamed to the goggles through the Orange 4G-network. Prophets has also designed its own Android app to view and listen to the 360° video.
The innovative Prophets kitchen team designed and produced the VR kit entirely themselves. Despite the rather artisan touch, the VR kit has quite some firsts under the hood. Lucas Caesens, creative technologist at Prophets, explains:
“What is unique about this kit is that it is fully autonomous and wireless. Its most innovative features are the two-way communication and real-time stitching of 360° images and 3D audio. This required our developers’ unique software, with huge amounts of processing power.”
The VR kit has been extensively tested and is already available as a VR on-demand service for Orange’s Make it Real campaign. It is now being used to shoot a series of mini documentaries.
